Q. Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio, 47-46 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.91 g, 12 h), with M. Eppius, legatus. Military mint traveling with Scipio in Africa. Q•METELL - [S]CIPIO•IM[P] Head of Africa to right, wearing elephant skin headdress; to right, stalk of grain; below, plow. Rev. LEG•F•C - EPPIVS Hercules standing facing, right hand set on his hip and leaning left on club draped with lion's skin and set on rock. Babelon (Caecilia) 50 and (Eppia) 1. Crawford 461/1. CRI 44. RBW 1605. Sydenham 1051. A fresh and very attractive piece. Very minor weakness on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.
